Holy Family Primary School, Kirkintilloch
Close collaboration with council staff, teachers and parents was critical to the completion on time and on budget of the contract undertaken by Clarke’s Environmental at Holy Family Primary School, Kirkintilloch for East Dunbartonshire Council.
Infant and junior school pupils were relocated to nearby Lairdsland Primary School building in order for contractors to repair structural damage on the main school. However, the nursery remained open.
When asbestos was found during the repair work, we were contracted by the council to remove the materials – and did so while around 100 children attended the nursery.
The challenge was to understand and address the concerns of parents and staff alike, and to reassure them that the work would be undertaken to the highest health and safety standards.
We had to be sensitive to how everyone felt about the work being done while the nursery remained open, holding regular on site meetings with various parties to give them confidence.
Our team of specialist asbestos removers used scaffolding to remove asbestos insulation board from the schools windows, replacing it with plywood.
Martin Kearnes, Asbestos and Legionella Office, East Dunbartonshire Council, commented: “Given the difficult circumstances and strict deadlines, Clarke’s Environmental remained positive throughout and always willing to help.”
